To have entered this domain you have been accredited with the status of Master Practitioner. Congratulations!! Having reached such a high standing in the therapeutic community, you have only a few more steps to self-actualization. However, over the years I have noticed a large number of Master Practitioners giving way to money over truth. I recently received the following directions from another Master Practitioner on how to build a prospering empire. So disgusted am I by their lack of morality that I have copied below some of that black missive, so as to warn you all of what not to do:
 
 

1. Publish a study utilizing your technique. During the review process make all necessary changes to all aspects of your study to ensure publication. The nature and severity of your changes does not matter. Get it published with only your name attached, irrespective of whether you were supervised.
 

2. Find sponsors within each of the services of mental health. This includes: Psychology, Psychiatry, Social Work, Occupational Therapy and, of course, Academia.
 

i). Choose at least two different sponsors from within each field and make sure that they come from completely different 'schools of thought'.

ii). Have them agree that your technique "warrants investigation".

iii). Have someone else (someone expendable) subtly misquote them (e.g. "Dr. xxx was reported as being very enthusiastic about researching the applications of this new breakthrough").

iv). Sympathize with the misquoted professionals and let them know that you will "do all within your power to bring the miscreant into line" and emphasize that you're "sure that it was their enthusiasm for the technique which led them to such recklessness". (This aligns you squarely with the offended parties, displays that you have some power, and are conscientious enough to do something to correct the situation. It also shows you as a person of compassion by seeing the less sinister motives of the offender.)

v). Facilitate the researchers' programs by offering a grant "in such a hostile funding climate".

vi). Keep track on the research by frequently 'liaising' with the directors of the studies.

v). Offer advice for reasons of negative findings.

vi). Enroll Dr. xxx as a director / trainer of your technique, and supply with an 'expenses fund'.
 

3). Form either an off-shore company or register it in your own country as a charitable organization. If you take the latter option, make sure you pay yourself as the Chief Executive Officer with a commensurate salary.

4). Hold trainings around the world at exorbitant prices.
 

i). Make sure you show some effort in policing the attendees qualifications.

ii). Hold the training seminars at 5 star hotels (attributes positive affect to the technique).

iii). Deliver a gold embossed certificate (people like something tangible and love qualifications).

iv). Give receipts that can be used by the attendees to off-set tax.

v). Never, ever, say something definite or definable at these trainings.

5). Argue with critics and press the point that you are only interested in the welfare of the suffering. Meet these critics head-on. Later this will enable you to claim victimization by the "ivory tower pedagogues" and aligns you with the practitioners (remember, the academics and researchers are always in a "hostile funding climate" and earn less than the practitioners, who will provide you with your income).

6). Expand and prosper.
